Materials Use and the Circular Economy

How our role as a major purchaser of products and services can strengthen resource efficiency and support the transition to a circular economy.

As one of Norway’s largest insurers and a significant purchaser within claims handling and repair services, we help to reduce material and resource use. We encourage customers, suppliers and partners to use circular solutions that lower the climate footprint while delivering comforting, highquality customer experiences.

Our focus on repair and reuse of parts within the claims journey delivers positive outcomes for the environment and for society. Together with our partners, we can establish new, sustainable standards for claims management – to the benefit of customers, the climate and nature.

What this means in practice

  • Circular economy in claims processes: We encourage customers and partners to prioritise repair and reuse over replacement. This cuts material consumption while maintaining customer satisfaction. In motor, both we and our customers have good experience with reclaimed (equivalent) parts. We have set a target of 15 % reclaimed parts in motor claims by 2030.
  • Greenhouse gas emissions and material use: Lower resource use also reduces emissions across the claims supply chain. We therefore measure and follow up emissions in claims processes and use reduced GHG emissions as a key performance indicator.

Our priority actions to increase resource efficiency

  • In motor, we are increasing the use of reclaimed parts through dialogue with customers and suppliers and by embedding clear requirements in contracts.
  • For contents, we are raising the share of repairs via agreements with specialist partners.
  • In property, we are increasing the share of repair over replacement and building knowledge on effective reuse.
  • Across supplier agreements, we set requirements on repair, reuse and waste management.
  • We strengthen competence internally.
