Coal Exclusion Guideline

We exclude mining companies and power producers that, individually or on a consolidated basis, derive 30 % or more of their revenue from thermal coal, or base 30 % or more of their operations on thermal coal. This includes coal mining, coalfired power generation and coal infrastructure, and applies to the entire investment portfolio, both direct and indirect exposures.
We monitor coal exposure by reviewing our investment portfolio using data from an external provider. Our current exposure to coal is limited. Where exposure exists, we engage with external managers.
In line with our netzero 2050 commitment, we aim to reduce the threshold for thermal coal exposure from today’s 30 % to 5 % by 2030 for listed equities and bonds. See our annual targets for reducing thermal coal exposure in towards 2030:

Goal – Exposure to thermal coal in towards 2030.

Unconventional Oil and Gas Guideline

Activities such as shale oil and gas, oil sands, liquefied natural gas (LNG), ultradeepwater oil and gas, and Arctic oil and gas carry potentially significant environmental and social risks. These include high greenhouse gas emissions, chemical contamination of groundwater, disruption of ecosystems, and impacts on local communities – such as encroachment on indigenous territories or health risks from polluted water and soil.
Risk levels vary depending on how companies implement safety and environmental measures. Fremtind does not automatically exclude companies solely based on exposure to unconventional oil and gas. However, we may exclude companies where operations breach criteria related to environmental harm, human rights or biodiversity.
